So the Ekin-Gigi break-up hasn't totally distracted Ekin from what he loves to do- star in a leading role of his favorite childhood superhero!
2006 sees the 40th Anniversary of Ultraman, a hugely popular Japanese TV show. Thai company Chaiyo Productions is currently making a new version of this classic series. Actor Ekin Cheng, an Ultraman fan himself, will star as the super hero, becoming the first Hong Kong artist to play the role.
The 52-episode series consists of three stories, each featuring a different artist. Apart from Ekin, two young Thai idols will also lead the cast. Reportedly 12 territories, including Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea have already bought the rights to broadcast the show locally, earning Chaiyo 600 million Thai Baht (about US$15 million) who are now negotiating with other countries on copyright issues.Countless movies and TV dramas have been made about Ultraman over the years and fans wait with baited breath to see if this new version will become a classic. |
