Ekin Cheng: Comeback with a new face
The TV series "Huo Yuanjia" debuted in China not long ago. The production directed by Stanley Kwan, marks the comeback bid of veteran entertainer, Ekin Cheng -- once a superstar, now a struggling actor.
In "Huo Yuanjia", Ekin Cheng and Jordan Chen play mentor and pupil. The two actors actually are close friends. Viewers who have seen the TV drama comment that Ekin Cheng's portrayal of the lead character is more graceful than his predecessors. But Cheng believes he's tapped into the wild side of his nature to the play the kungfu master.
As a Qing Dynasty character, Ekin Cheng had to shave his head. It's the first time he's done THAT. But Cheng says the role has helped him to understand some things. He's looking back and reflectively examining his past.
Ekin Cheng says he will devote himself to acting now. His singing career will be just a sideline. After he gets some more experience, he says he'll consider trying out the director's chair for a movie or TV production.
