Leo Ku nominated as a 2008 Beijing Olympic Torch Bearer

At a press conference held by computer manufacturer Lenovo yesterday, it was announced that Leo is nominated as one of the torch bearers for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Apart from that, Leo will also be producing a medley in Mandarin, comprising of songs that advocate sportmanship.

Although Leo has attended several Olympic promotion events previously, all torches used have always been props. Touching the real Olympic torch for the first time, he said," The feeling is very great. This gold-made torch is actually very light, it symbolises the sacred Olympic Games, so we have to wear gloves while holding it. (Do you look forward to taking part in the relay?) It's already an honour to be nominated. This is the first time Chinese organise the Olympics, and Hong Kong is going to be one of the relay stops. If I get the chance to pass on the Olympic Flame, it's going to be my life's most memorable and proudest moment."

When asked how he will prepare for this role, Leo said the responsibility is very heavy and will train his stamina for the run. He added," The organising committee will produce an identical torch for me as souvenir, it's very meaningful."

Leo hopes to watch the opening ceremony of the Games live in August next year. He said," I wish to see Liu Xiang winning gold medal most, and running on the tracks with China's flag." The reporters then teased him that he might not have holidays to see all these, which Leo replied," The Olympics is something very significant, I'm sure my boss will let me take some holidays. Even if he doesn't, I'll insist, since I have accumulated so many years' holidays by now. (Have you booked hotel yet?) Don't worry, Alex's hometown is in Beijing, I can pay a visit to his grandmother. Haha!"
