Nike Sportswear Flagship Store Opening NYC @ 21 Mercer Street in Soho

Spike Lee, Serena Williams and Roger Federer were on hand for the Nike Sportswear at 21 Mercer block party. The event was a celebration for the Nike sportswear store in SoHo opening on Thursday night 8/21/08 in New York City.

It is the first Nike Sportswear-specific store of its kind. The stand-alone shop will be the only location globally to carry the complete NSW collection and seasonal 21 Mercer products.









Here's some of the exclusives in store.


Air Rejuven8 - Evidence that inspirations could come from anywhere. The design behind Nike Air Rejuven8 was initiated by an innocent observation of a fruit net protecting some Asian pears at a Thanksgiving dinner. The prototype was further refined by introducing elements from the now iconic “Bird’s Nest” Olympic Stadium in Beijing and the extensive linage, such as Bob Mervar’s Presto, Tinker Hatfield’s Air Huarache, Sean McDowell’s Air Kukini, Bruce Kilgore’s Sock Racer and Marc Newson’s the Zvezdockha. As Air Rejuven8 creator, Pam Greene, stated “The great thing about innovating at Nike is that we have iconic heritage products to draw from.” An excellent tool for athletes to recover between rapid schedule competition or training. The Air Rejuven8 will be available at 21 Mercer in five special Nike Sportswear color ways.


LunaRacer - Amalgamation of Flywire and Lunarlite foam, Nike’s newest entry to distance running performance, the LunaRacer, will make its debut at 21 Mercer in five limited edition color ways. To add to the already light-weight Flywire upper mentioned previously, famed Nike Innovation Kitchen created Lunarlite foam, a new mid-sole with unique sets of characteristics. By distributing pressure evenly and retaining energy for the next stride, runners could attain longer distance, faster results in comfort.


Air Force 1 Lux - By reinterpreting the classic footwear by Bruce Kilgore, with a multi-dimensional design theme. The Air Force 1 became a key anchor piece within Nike Sportswear collection. Instead of just simple cloth and leather, the updated NSW Air Force 1 will add injected thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to the upper. However, the centerpiece of this collection is a series of hand-crafted AF1s, produced exclusively for performers who participated the “1Night Only” event. These very rare editions feature premium leather constructions both inside and out, a custom dubrae, and a “1Night Only” sockliner and tongue label. These highly sought after AF1 shoes will be made available to the general public for the first time in 12 different colorways, exclusively at 21 Mercer. And as part of the Nike Sportswear Bespoke program, the sneakers will be made-to-order and take four weeks to deliver.
