Asia pop diva Faye Wong in low key profile

She was born and grew up in Beijing, but her career started in Hong Kong. She first shot to fame with the stage name of Shirley Wong, but later changed back to her real name of Faye Wong. She is a real Queen of Chinese Pop and her music is liked by both male and female audience in Asia, who call themselves Fayenatics.




Faye Wong lived in Beijing until the age of 18. She moved to Hong Kong with her parents in 1987. At the early stages of her career she again left Hong Kong and moved to New York to study music, and literature. Several months later, she returned and released her new album "Coming Home" album, which became an immediate hit.

She has sung in several languages such as Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, French and English.



Teresa Teng is one of her idols. Some of her favorite artists include: Cranberries, Cocteau Twins, Air, Sinead O'Connor, and The Sundays.

Wong is known internationally for her 1 million dollar song, "Eyes on Me". Theme to Final Fantasy 8.

She has entered into the Guiness Book of World Records as the best-selling Cantopop female, with an estimated 9.7 million of her 20 albums sold by March 2000.

She was the first Canto-Pop female to hold a concert in Japan.

She likes to wear a red string around her right wrist because she is a Buddhist. The red string symbolizes Buddhism.

She was the main spokesperson for Pepsi in Asia and Baleno, a clothing company.

Her personal favorite song is "Kisses In The Wind", featured on her "Coming Home" album.

Her song "To Love" was banned in Malaysia and China because the song talked about smoking Opium.

Singer Na Ying is one of her best friends.

Wong is married to Li Yapeng, an Mainland Chinese actor. She has a daughter from her previous marriage and a new born baby with her current husband. Since then the former sparkling pop diva remains in low-key profile. But her music is still very much enjoyed by her fans.

Faye Wong Taps Creative Impulse

Hong Kong pop diva Faye Wong, currently awaiting the birth of her second child, is not just resting at home, as the super star has now become a composer.

Faye Wong has written 5 songs to celebrate her upcoming baby, similar to the song "Child," which was released in 1998 when the singer gave birth to a baby daughter.

Composition of the new album is now complete and recording will begin after the singer recovers from delivery sometime in April.
