The Best Supporting Actor category has so many good actors who gave great performance in their respective series (I think Wayne Lai deserves this award the most). In The Most Improved Actor category, I think both Kevin Cheng and Steven Ma also deserve the award.

The lighting up ceremony and press conference was held yesterday, marking the start of TVB's 39th Anniversary celebrations at Tseung Kwan O's TVB City. Accompanied by Miss Hong Kong winner Aimee Chan, Sir Run Run Shaw was in high spirits as he took part in proceedings. With TVB Divas Liza Wang and Carol Cheng at his side, he lit up the stage and over a hundred artistes were present in an atmospheric occasion. Guest performers for the event were Leo Ku and Joey Yung.

At the main switch on, the front row of artistes were all female stars. On Liza Wang's side were Ada Choi, Melissa Ng, Sheren Tang, Niki Chow, Louisa So and Christine Ng. On Carol's side were Charmaine Sheh, Myolie Wu, Yoyo Mung, Bernice Liu, Linda Chung and Tavia Yeung. Bowie Lam and Roger Kwok were at the centre of the second row. In one act, stars from new series "Pearl of the Orient" Liza, Charmaine and Roger performed a song and dance routine and the cast from "Welcome to the House" also put on a comedy sketch item.

Liza's series "Pearl of the Orient" will begin airing in November and so will not be included in this year's nominations for the anniversary awards. Liza says she does not mind because she has done her best already and she does not want to think too much. She supports Charmaine to win this year's 'Best Female Artiste' award, because she played four different characters in "Maiden's Vow" and this was quite unusual. Although Myolie is also not bad, her series has not yet aired and as people have only seen her look, they do not know how her performance is yet.

With Liza's support, Charmaine does not feel any pressure, but she is thankful for the encouragement and hopes not to disappoint Liza. Talking of her strong opposition from Myolie, Charmaine does not feel this as she says all of the nominees are strong opponents. With more reports of her having dinner with executives and exchanging new contracts for awards, Charmaine says she just finds this all very funny because she still has two years to run on her contract and the meal was just normal dining out.

Myolie was dressed in a sexy outfit for the occasion in a deep V neckline and backless dress. She smiles that she still does not have a perfect figure, but over the past few months, she has shown off her body no matter if she is fat or slim. With five nominations last year, but just one this year, Myolie does not feel her chances are reduced because she hopes to win with just the one chance. However, she does agree with Liza's comments. She predicts that there will be a lot of gossip about conflicts in the anniversary month, but she will not take notice of it and she does not feel anything about it.

This is the second time that Leo has been the guest at the lighting up ceremony and there are rumours that he has well and truly kicked out TVB's Godson Hacken Lee and that he will have a chance to take the Male Singer award at the end of the year. He insists that this is two separate things and people should not read too much into it. He also says that the words 'kick out' are very negative and should not be used because everything is arranged as work and he has not thought about winning awards as he will just go with the flow. Asked about reports that her three properties total $82 million, Joey immediately replied: "Don't make me happy, I am afraid of a falling property market. My mother looks after my investments and she knows how to do it. I don't pay much attention, but the upkeep of the three properties is too high, so I am planning to sell the apartment in Happy Valley."

Roger celebrated his birthday with his wife Cindy Au and a group of friends earlier in a Wanchai Japanese restaurant, but he was not in a good mood when he saw the press. However, he still posed for photographs with his wife.

"Fat Tin" Reaches 33 points but meets Harsh Reviews

With a heavyweight Myolie Wu at the helm, the highly anticipated "To Grow With Love" (aka Lush Fields Happy Times / Fat Tin's Happy Affairs) premiered on Monday. With a string of promotional events beforehand, the show is the talk of the town and gained a peak of 33 points on the first night, equalling rival Charmaine Sheh's "Maiden's Vow". However, Myolie's acting ability has come under fire from critics as she loses out on the reviews compared to Charmaine.

Having gained 45 lbs to film this series, Myolie created a lot of hype around the show as her weight was the hot topic of conversation everywhere. In order to mark the event of the show's premiere, Myolie invited some fellow cast and crew members to dinner, including Kenneth Ma and Gigi Wong, followed by watching the first episode together. Myolie's parents were also present to support her.

Having lost a lot of her weight now, Molie says that she was not too nervous: "I have already watched it once with the producer, but even before it was aired, there were many neighbours who wanted to watch it already." does she feel that her award is in the bag with the show being aired? Myolie does not want to say too much: "We will see what happens with these things. We have to see whether the viewers like it, but I hope that the role will give people a fresh feeling." She says that in order to return to a slim figure, she can only eat very plain foods at the meal: "I am now down to 124 lbs, although I am just 9 lbs from my target, I hope to reach 115 lbs by the anniversary night."

Although "To Grow with Love" had respectable ratings, averaging 32 points and attracting over 2 million viewers and rapidly challenging "Maiden's Vow", Myolie's performance in the show has been harshly criticised by people on the internet, who say that her actions are exaggerated and she is giving fat people a bad image. Other comments have said that the show was overhyped and disappointing. Although there has been a lot of critique, Myolie's rumoured boyfriend Bosco Wong is still very supportive of her and praises her great talent: "I did watch it and I thought it was quite good! Myolie did well!"

Charmaine is Relaxed about Rumours

Charmaine Sheh took part in an interview at Cha Siu Yan's show on CRHK yesterday and spoke about the approaching TVB Anniversary Awards and all the gossip that has been stirred up around her battle for the Best Actress award against Myolie Wu. There have been reports recently that TVB is totally supporting Myolie and turning against Charmaine and the most recent reports suggest that she has been banging the desks and cursing the TVB executives for giving the award to Myolie. Asked about all the gossip, Myolie replied with a relaxed attitude and smiled: "The whole company against me? That is quite powerful, but I did not read the details so I am not sure."

Charmaine says it is no surprise that the press has been firing at her as a result of the contest between her and Myolie, but she adds graciously: "In my mind, Myolie, Ada Choi and Sheren Tang all have a good chance." As for the desk-banging, Charmaine asks in response: "Has the award already been presented? Why would I be so extreme?" As for the suggestion that TVB will try to keep everything sweet by introducing a new special award so they have one each, Charmaine says she does not know about a secret award, so she questions the truth behind the reports. However, Charmaine knows that the company does change its awards structure every year. So which award would she most like to win? Charmaine says that as long as she wins an award, she will be happy.

TVB's 2006 Anniversary will be held on November 10th. Many tabloids have claimed that Charmaine Sheh and Myolie Wu are in disagreement due to competition for the Best Actress Award. Both Charmaine and Myolie laughed over the rumors, hoping instead to get to know each other better through their latest collaboration, "The Changing Times."

Since the disagreement rumors surfaced, this photo shoot is the first time that Charmaine and Myolie have been brought together. But they showed a surprising compatibility, matching each other's poses in the photographs. Both Charmaine and Myolie entered the industry through the Miss Hong Kong Pageant and despite sharing the same manager, they do not know each other too well. They can only laugh over the recent disagreement rumors.

Charmaine and Myolie are working together for the first time on new series, "The Changing Times." However it is ironic that both women will be fighting over Raymond Lam Fung in the series, resulting in a complex love triangle. Charmaine hopes to get to know Myolie better while filming the series.

Also, Charmaine appeared in Pacino Wan's fashion show yesterday. She hopes to earn more income in order to pay for her income taxes. Charmaine's income statement earlier gave her a shock. In the past two years, Charmaine had to pay over $1 million (HKD) in taxes. In the past, Charmaine did not have the proper cash flow [to pay her taxes] and was forced to move her [investment] funds; luckily she did not have to borrow from TVB.
