They called him the Elvis of Hong Kong. His death left many HK fans anguished due to his popularity and his reason to commit suicide.

He became an idol in the pop 80s and 90s and saddened his fans with his "Final Encounter" concert performance. His hits, "Monica" and his famous song from the movie "A Better Tomorrow" had him climb to the top!

Leslie entered the entertainment business after winning first runner-up in the 1976 ATV Asian Music Contest performing "American Pie."
Leslie has showed the Chinese entertainment world the true meaning of self expression, a cultural taboo for Asians. During his tour, Leslie wore eight Jean-Paul Gaultier outfits, each more outrageous than the previous, from a white tux with angel wings to a naughty skirt and a long wig, with complete disregard of the controversy stirring concerning his sexuality. In 1997, Leslie publicly announced his 12-year secret relationship to Daffy Tong Hok-Tak, his financial manager, making him one of the first stars to come out openly about his homosexuality. (So Brokeback Mountain wasn't really the beginning of this!)

Leslie stood at top of the Mandarin Oriental suffering from a breakup with another partner, he leapt and made the world of HK music fans cry with him.

This April marks the 3rd anniversary of his death.

...that heaven has a place for him.
may you continue to rest in peace, leslie. your legacy in music is not forgotten, and though you are often imitated, you are seldom matched.
